Explainer videos work. This is not a hot take, it is just true. Landing pages with a video on them convert meaningfully better than the ones without. People remember far more of what they watch than what they read. If you have ever sat through a client meeting where someone says “let’s just add a video to the homepage” like it is a magic lever, it is because they are not wrong that video moves numbers. It does. We would not be in the business of making them otherwise.
Here is the part nobody wants to hear: a beautifully shot, perfectly edited ninety-second explainer video does not fix a business that cannot explain itself. It just explains the confusion faster, louder, and in higher resolution. You have taken a vague, meandering pitch and turned it into a vague, meandering pitch with motion graphics and a voiceover artist who sounds very sure of themselves. The confusion did not go away. It got a soundtrack and a colour grade.
What a video actually is
A corporate video or explainer video is an amplifier. That is the whole function. It takes whatever is already true about your business and makes it travel further, land harder, and stick longer. If what is true about your business is clear, sharp, and differentiated, the video is a genuine multiplier. It will do more work in ninety seconds than three pages of website copy, because that is simply how people process information when it moves and talks to them.
But an amplifier has no opinion about what it is amplifying. Feed it clarity, you get clarity at volume. Feed it confusion, and you get confusion at volume, with better lighting. We have sat in briefs where a client wants an explainer video because the sales team “struggles to explain what we do” internally, on sales calls, in the lift, to their own mothers. That is not a video problem. That is a business hiding a positioning problem behind a production budget, hoping motion graphics will do the thinking nobody wanted to do first. It will not. It is very good at many things. Thinking on your behalf is not one of them.
The order of operations that actually matters
Get the business clear first. What do you do, in one sentence a stranger would understand. Who is it for, specifically, not “everyone who needs X.” Why you, over the other five options that stranger has open in other tabs right now. If you cannot answer those three things without three follow-up questions and a slide with a Venn diagram on it, no video treatment fixes that. A storyboard is not a strategy document, however much it looks like one with sticky notes on it and a facilitator in the room.
This is brand strategy work, and it has to happen before a single frame gets storyboarded. It is less fun than picking a colour palette for motion graphics, sure. Nobody has ever left a workshop about positioning statements feeling as energised as they do watching a showreel. But it is also the difference between a video that sells and a video that is expensive lipstick on a proposition nobody bothered to sharpen. We say this as a studio that does explainer videos, motion graphics, and corporate video work for clients, and genuinely rates it as a growth tool. We just will not pretend the camera fixes what the strategy skipped. That is not honesty for its own sake, it is just what actually gets results.
So, is an explainer video worth it?
When the clarity already exists, yes, unreservedly. If you know exactly what you do, who it is for, and why you win, a well-made explainer video will outperform almost anything else on a landing page. It compresses understanding into seconds, it builds trust through tone and pacing in a way paragraphs cannot, and it gets shared in ways a wall of text never will. That is the case for corporate video for business done properly: not as a rescue mission, but as a force multiplier bolted onto something that was already working before the camera ever showed up.
When the clarity does not exist yet, the honest answer is to fix that first, even though it is the less glamorous invoice to sign off on. Get the positioning right. Get the one sentence right. Sort out who you are actually talking to and what makes you different from the next studio in the pitch deck, which you can read more about over on our services page if you want to see how we sequence that kind of work. Then, and only then, make it move. In that order, not the other one, and not because we are precious about process but because the order is the entire point.
Do explainer videos work? Yes, emphatically, when they have something clear to amplify. Skip the clarity and you have not solved your explaining problem, you have just given it better production values and a bigger audience. If you want the video and the story it is telling to actually match, get in touch and we will tell you honestly which one you need first.
